Discord QR Code Generator

A Discord code opens an invite link, so a phone that scans it shows your server and offers to join. Paste the invite once, then pick the export size that suits the spot where people will meet the code, such as an event poster or a sticker on a laptop lid.

What a Discord QR code opens

A Discord code holds one invite link, written as discord.gg followed by a short string of letters and numbers. When a phone reads it, the camera offers to open the link, and Discord displays a preview of the server with its name, its icon and its member count. Someone with an account can accept right away, and a visitor without one signs up before entering.

A community usually needs a server invite, which brings people into channels and roles you set up in advance. Discord also lets an administrator create several invites for the same server, each with its own limits, so a campaign can use a dedicated link and be closed later without touching the others. The expiry and the number of uses are chosen when each invite is created.

The link is written into the image, so a printed code keeps pointing at the same invite until that invite expires or is deleted. Deleting an invite in the server settings stops every printed code that carries it, so keep the link you print apart from any link you might need to remove.

Creating a Discord code in three steps

  1. 01

Create an invite that does not expire

Open the invite options in your server and create a new invite. Set the expiry to never and leave the number of uses unlimited if the code will hang on a wall for months. Copy the discord.gg link that Discord produces.

  2. 02

Paste it into the Website URL field

The field opens with the prefix https://discord.gg/ already in place. Swap the prefix for the complete link, then compare the letters and digits with what Discord displays before you move on.

  3. 03

Test the join screen, then download

Try the preview on a phone with Discord installed, then on one without it. Both should show the same server name and icon. Save a vector SVG for posters and a PNG for displays, and size the code so a person can read it while walking past.

Where a Discord code earns its place

  • Event tables and name badges

A convention, a meetup or a game night can print the invite on table cards. Attendees scan once and join before the event begins, so organizers can post the schedule and check-in notes in the server.

  • Creator merch and live streams

A streamer can print the code on a sticker or a shirt, or show it on screen during a broadcast. Viewers who scan it land in the community chat, where the next stream gets announced first.

  • Classrooms and study groups

A teacher or course leader can place the code on a handout, so students join a course server with channels for homework and announcements. A capped number of uses keeps the invite for the enrolled group alone.

  • Conference booths and developer meetups

An open-source project can put the code on its booth sign, pointing newcomers to the support channel. People can ask questions straight away and skip searching for the server by name.

  • Product cards and fan communities

A brand can slip the code into a product box or onto a card, so buyers join a community where drops and restocks appear first. A short line beside the code should explain what members will find inside.

Tips for a Discord code that stays valid

Set expiry to never for print
Default invite settings can lapse after a single day or a week. A printed code whose invite has lapsed leads to an error page. Before you download, review the expiry and the use limit, so the code still works when the poster has hung for weeks.
Create one invite per campaign
A single link on every flyer makes it hard to tell which location brings people in, and closing that link shuts all of them. Make one invite per poster, table or event, and delete only the invite that is no longer needed.
Limit uses only when you need to
A maximum number of uses protects a small private group, but a code on a public wall reaches a crowd and runs out fast. Set a limit only when the audience is small and known, and check the usage count in the invite list from time to time.
Write the server name beside the code
A scan opens the server card, but a printed code says nothing about the community. Write the server name and its purpose next to the code, so a passer-by knows whether the invite is worth a scan.

Discord QR code questions

Is the Discord QR code generator free?

Yes. A static code costs nothing to create or download, and you do not need an account to make one. An account lets you keep your codes in one list. Dynamic codes, which count scans and can be edited after printing, are a paid option.

Does someone need a Discord account to scan the code?

They need an account to join the server, but the code itself does not require one. Any phone camera can read the link, and the join screen asks the visitor to log in or sign up before entering the community.

Why does my code stop working after a while?

The invite may have an expiry time or a maximum number of uses that was set when the link was created. Once it expires or reaches its limit, the printed code leads to an error. Open the invite settings for the server and set the invite to never expire before printing.

Can I change the server a Discord code leads to?

Not with a static code, because the invite is part of the image. A dynamic code on a paid plan can point to a different link later. Without one, a new server needs a fresh code and fresh printing.

Can the code show the server name before a scan?

No. A static code carries only the invite link, so the name and icon appear after a phone opens it. Print the server name beside the code so people know what they are joining before they scan.

Why does a scan sometimes open the browser?

A web link is handed to whichever app the phone associates with it. Discord usually receives discord.gg links when its app is installed, and the browser takes over otherwise, so the same invite can open in either place.
