Phone Number QR Code Generator
Scan the code and the phone opens its dialer with the number you entered already in place. A number written with the plus sign and the country code reads the same way from any country, so it is worth using that form from the start.
What a phone QR code does
A phone QR code holds a tel: link followed by the number. When a camera reads it, the phone opens the dialer with that number. Depending on the device and its settings, the call may start at once or wait for a confirmation, so do not print the code as if it were an emergency button.
The editor keeps only the digits and the plus sign. Spaces, dashes, brackets and dots disappear, so you can copy a number from a business card without cleaning it first. The formatter does not validate anything, though: it does not check that the number exists or that the country code is the right one.
The code is static. The number is printed inside the image, and nothing records how many times it was scanned or who called. A new number means a new code and a new print.
How to make a phone QR code in three steps
-
01
Enter the number with its prefix
Type the number in the Phone number field, starting with the plus sign and the country code. You can paste it with spaces or dashes, because the editor removes them, but the number itself must begin with its country prefix.
-
02
Check the output
Look at the preview and confirm that every digit is there and that the plus sign comes first. Do not add an extension or text such as ext, because the editor keeps every digit and the extension would join the main number.
-
03
Test and download
Scan the preview with a phone other than the one you would call from, and check that the dialer shows the right number. Download an SVG for print or a PNG for a screen, with an export size between 512 and 4096 pixels.
Where a phone QR code is useful
-
Business cards and email signatures
A card with a code lets someone save the call in one tap instead of copying the number by hand. Each card points to one line, so a team can give every member a separate code.
-
Shops, workshops and home services
A sign in a shop window can carry a number for orders, bookings or quotes. Put the opening hours beside the code, so the call does not arrive when nobody can answer.
-
Property boards and rentals
A board on a building can open the dialer for the office or the person who arranges viewings. Because each board points to one number, you can use a different code on every property.
-
Trade fairs and events
A stand or a badge with a code lets visitors call the team without finding the number on a leaflet. Write the number in large letters beside the code for anyone without a camera handy.
-
Reception desks and shared offices
A reception desk or the door of a shared office can carry a code with the main number. Visitors dial the right line the first time, without asking at the desk.
Tips for a phone code that dials correctly
- Always include the country code
- A number without the plus sign and the country prefix can point to another country or to nothing. Write the prefix followed by the national number, without the long-distance trunk zero that many countries use inside their borders.
- Leave extensions out of the code
- Every digit you type goes into the number, so an extension added at the end would join the main number and the call would not reach the right desk. If you need an extension, print the main line and let the caller enter it once the call connects.
- Expect a confirmation step
- Depending on the system and its settings, the dialer may call at once or show the number and wait for the person to press call. Add a line of text beside the code that describes what will happen, so the visitor is not surprised.
- Print the number in plain text
- A code that fails on an old phone or in poor light leaves the person with nothing. Put the number written out under the code, so anyone can dial it by hand.
Phone QR code questions
Does the code call the number by itself?
Usually not. It opens the dialer with the number ready, and the person confirms the call. Test the code on the devices your visitors use to see how each one behaves.
Why does the editor remove spaces?
A tel: link needs only digits and the plus sign. Spaces, dashes and brackets do nothing when dialing, so the editor removes them and keeps only what the phone needs.
Can I add an extension?
Not in this editor. Each digit you type becomes part of the number, so an extension would merge into it. Use the main number of the organization, or a line that connects directly.
Do I need to type the plus sign?
It is the safest choice. The plus sign and the country code show exactly which country the number belongs to, which avoids mistakes when someone dials from another country.
Can I count how many people called?
Not with a static code, which holds only the number. Dynamic codes count scans on the Pro plan and above, but a scan does not show whether a call was answered.
How big should the printed code be?
It depends on the distance people scan from. A small code on a card works when the reader holds it close, while a poster on a wall needs larger modules. Print a test at the real size and scan it from the distance you expect.
