vCard QR Code Generator

A vCard code holds a complete contact card inside one image. A phone camera reads it and offers to save the person as a new contact, with the name, company, job title and every detail you typed.

What a vCard QR code contains

A vCard is a plain-text contact card. The text opens with BEGIN:VCARD, declares VERSION:3.0 and closes with END:VCARD, and in between it lists the name, company, job title, phone, email, website and address. The QR code holds that whole text, so the card travels inside the image instead of living on a server.

Each field becomes one line of the card. The first and last name fill the structured name line and the full name line, while the company, job title, phone, email, website and address each get their own entry. The editor escapes commas and semicolons for you, so a company name such as Smith, Jones and Partners reaches the phone intact.

Because the card lives inside the image, a changed phone number means a new code and a reprint. The editor assembles the card while you type and never counts scans. A vCard suits a card that rarely changes, and it is a poor fit for details you plan to update every quarter.

Building a vCard code in three steps

  1. 01

    Fill in the name fields

Enter First name, which is the only required field, and add Last name if you have one. The phone shows the full name made of both parts joined by a space, so a single name such as a stage name works without a second field.

  2. 02

    Add the work details

Company, Job title, Phone, Email, Website and Address are all optional, and empty fields are left out of the code. Phone keeps the plus sign and the digits and drops spaces, dashes and brackets. Website works with or without https, because the editor adds the prefix when it is missing.

  3. 03

    Check the preview and download

Scan the preview with a second phone and wait for the contact prompt, then check the name, company and number on the screen that appears. When everything matches, download an SVG for print or a PNG for a screen. Any later change means building the code again from the same fields.

Who prints or shares a vCard code

  • Business cards

Print the code on the back of a card so the front stays uncluttered. A client who scans it receives your name, company and direct line without typing anything from paper.

  • Conference badges and booths

A code printed beneath your name lets the people you meet save you in one step, which is faster than exchanging cards at a busy booth. Keep it large enough that a phone can read it from the distance of a handshake.

  • Email signatures

Place a small image of the code beside the signature in your messages. A recipient who reads the message on a phone can save the contact without retyping your details, and the image needs no link.

  • Real estate and rental listings

An agent can put the code on a sign or a flyer so a visitor saves the agent's number straight away. Use the phone field for the line that answers calls, because that is the number the contact receives.

  • Freelancers and tradespeople

A plumber, photographer or consultant can leave the code on a van, a quote or an invoice. The address field lets a customer save the business location along with the phone number.

Tips for a vCard code that imports cleanly

One phone number per code
The generator has a single Phone field, so a card with a mobile and an office line needs a choice. Put the number people should call first in that field, because it is the one they will save.
Every phone is saved as a mobile
The phone line is written with the cell type, so the contact app files the number as a mobile. This editor offers no type choice, which means an office line is also saved as a mobile.
Write the address on one line
The address is a single text value placed in the street position of the card. Type it on one line with the city and postal code in their usual order, because the field does not take line breaks.
Test the import before printing
Scan the code with an iPhone and with an Android phone, then check each field on the saved contact. A few hundred printed cards with one wrong field cost far more than the minute a test takes.

vCard QR code questions

What is the difference between a vCard and a link to my website?

A link opens a web page where the visitor reads your details and copies them by hand. A vCard places the details into the phone's contact list, so the information is saved in one tap instead of retyped.

Do I need an app to read a vCard code?

Usually not. Current iPhone and Android cameras recognize the contact format and offer to save it. Older phones or unusual scanner apps may only display the raw text, which still contains every detail.

Can I change the code after I print it?

No. The contact data sits inside the image, so a new phone number needs a new code. A free account lets you save the code, so you can find its fields again and reproduce it later.

Can a vCard become a dynamic code?

No. Dynamic codes redirect only to a web address, a phone number, a text message, an email, a FaceTime call or a map location. A contact card is not one of those targets, so it stays in a static code.

Is my contact information stored on your servers?

The editor assembles the card in your browser as you type. Saving the code to an account stores its fields with that code, so delete the code there when you no longer need it.

Which field is mandatory?

Only First name. Every other field is optional, and the card includes only the fields you filled in, so an empty company does not leave a blank line behind in the contact.
