WhatsApp QR Code Generator

Scan the code and WhatsApp opens a chat with the number you entered, with an optional message already typed in the box. The person decides whether to send that message, so the code starts the conversation without sending anything itself.

What a WhatsApp QR code opens

A WhatsApp QR code holds a short link on the WhatsApp service domain, with the number in its path and an optional text parameter with the message. When a camera reads it, the phone follows the link, which usually opens the chat in the WhatsApp app. The code carries no information about the scanner, and only people who have WhatsApp installed can use the chat.

The number has to be in international form: the country code first, with no plus sign, no zeros in front and no spaces. The editor removes spaces, dashes and brackets, and a leading plus sign, so what you type is largely what the code holds. A local number that starts with a zero is an easy mistake to make, because the link needs the country code followed by the rest of the number.

The code is static. The number and the message are fixed in the image, so a change of number means a new code. The message only appears as a draft in the box, and the person can edit or delete it before sending. The code cannot tell how many chats were opened.

How to make a WhatsApp QR code in three steps

  1. 01

Enter the number with its country code

Type the number in the Phone (with country code) field, starting with the country code. Spaces and dashes are removed for you, but a leading zero from the local form is kept, so delete it before you generate the code.

  2. 02

    Write the pre-filled message

Type the words in the Pre-filled message field if you want them in the box when the chat opens. Keep it to a line or two that the person can edit or send as they are, and leave the field empty for a blank chat.

  3. 03

    Test, then download

Scan the preview with a phone that has WhatsApp installed and check that the chat opens with the right contact and text. Pick an SVG for print or a PNG for a screen, with any export size from 512 to 4096 pixels.

Where a WhatsApp QR code is useful

  • Questions at a shop counter

A sticker on the counter can open a chat with the shop's number, so a customer asks about stock or opening hours without calling during a busy time. A pre-filled product name saves a round of questions.

  • Bookings for salons and studios

A card on the desk can open a chat with the front desk, with a request for an appointment already typed in. The business replies when it is free, and the request stays in the chat history.

  • Guest questions in rentals

A host can leave a code in an apartment that opens a chat with the host's number, with a line asking about the check-in time already typed. Guests start the conversation from the same place where they found the house rules.

  • Workshop and community sign-ups

A flyer can open a chat with the organizer's number and a message that names the workshop and the date. The code holds one number, so a group that needs a shared thread requires a different setup.

  • Freelancers and small suppliers

A printed portfolio or a quote sheet can carry a code that opens a chat with the freelancer's number and a short line about the project. The client edits the message, which makes the first contact easier to answer.

Tips for a WhatsApp code that opens the right chat

Drop the leading zero
A national number often begins with a zero that is used only when dialing inside the country. Remove it and keep the country code, so the number reads as a full international number. A code built with the wrong form may open a different chat or none at all.
Keep the message short
The pre-filled text sits inside the link, so the code grows with it. A sentence fits easily, while a paragraph makes the pattern denser and harder to read from a poster. Ask for the detail in the reply, not in the code.
Check the number from your own phone
Open the chat yourself, from your own WhatsApp, before you print. This confirms the number belongs to the account you intended. One wrong digit sends the customer to a stranger.
Print the number as text too
A chat that opens to an unfamiliar number can look unexpected to the person who scans it. Print the number beside the code, so the person can see who they are about to contact before scanning.

WhatsApp QR code questions

Is the WhatsApp QR code generator free?

Static codes cost nothing to make. The editor lets you style one and download it as PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG.

Does the person who scans need WhatsApp?

Yes. The chat opens inside the WhatsApp app, so the person who scans the code needs the app installed and an account of their own.

Can I open a group instead of a number?

No. The generator builds a link to one phone number. Group invitations are a different kind of link and are not part of this code type.

Does the message send itself?

No. The message appears in the box as a draft, and the person can change or delete it before tapping send.

Do I have to write the plus sign?

No. The editor removes a leading plus sign, because the link uses digits only. Start with the country code and the code will be correct.

Can I count how many people started a chat?

Not with a static code. It holds the number and the message, and it cannot log anything.Dynamic codes count scans on the Pro plan and above, and they can point to a WhatsApp link, so the destination can change without reprinting.
