Ethereum QR Code Generator
Enter an Ethereum address and, optionally, a value in wei, and the generator writes an ethereum: link that a wallet can read. Wei is the smallest unit of ether, so the value must be entered in wei, not in ETH.
What an Ethereum QR code holds
An Ethereum QR code holds a link in the EIP-681 style: the word ethereum, a colon, the receiving address and an optional value parameter after a question mark. The address is a hexadecimal string that begins with 0x and has 40 more hexadecimal digits. The value is a whole number of wei, where one ether equals 10 to the power of 18 wei.
The link does not name a network. EIP-681 allows an optional chain identifier, and this generator does not write one, so the wallet that scans the code chooses the network. The generator also does not check the address, convert units or look at any balance.
The code is static. The address and value are drawn into the image, nothing is stored on a server, and the code cannot be changed after printing. Without a value, the payer chooses the amount in their wallet. The format carries only a plain value, so the code cannot call a smart contract or name a token.
How to make an Ethereum QR code in three steps
-
01
Paste the receiving address
Copy the address from your wallet and paste it into the Address field. A standard Ethereum address starts with 0x and has 42 characters in total, so check the length and the first two characters before you continue.
-
02
Enter the value in wei
Type the Value (wei) as a whole number. The field does not convert from ether, so one ether must be written as 1000000000000000000. Leave the field empty when the payer should choose the amount.
-
03
Test with a wallet, then download
Scan the preview with a wallet on a second device and compare the address and value with what the wallet displays. Do not send a test payment to the address. Then download an SVG for a printer or a PNG for a noticeboard.
Where an Ethereum QR code is useful
-
Open source projects and creators
A code on a booth or a conference slide lets people send a small amount to a project address. Use the address of a wallet your team controls, and leave the value empty when the amount is open.
-
Shared costs among friends
A code can carry the address of a shared wallet for a trip or a dinner. Add a printed line with the amount in ether beside the code, so people can check it against the figure the wallet shows.
-
Events and merchandise
A sticker or a stand can let a visitor pay a fixed price for an item. Make one code for each price, because the value is part of the link.
-
Teaching blockchain basics
A teacher can scan the code with a wallet and show the difference between an address and an amount. Students can see that the value is written in wei while the wallet displays ether.
-
Donations to a public project
A code on a repository page or a poster can receive open contributions with no value set. Keep the address in a wallet that the project team controls, and publish the address in the same place as the code.
Tips for an Ethereum code that does not mislead
- Agree on the network first
- A 0x address is valid on several networks that use the same address format, so a payment sent on the wrong network may arrive where you cannot see it. Agree on the network with the payer before they send anything.
- Write wei, not ether
- Type whole numbers only. One ether is 10 to the power of 18 wei, so 0.01 ether must be written as 10000000000000000. Work out the figure with a calculator, then compare it with the wallet display.
- A transfer cannot be reversed
- Once a transfer is confirmed on the network, the sender cannot cancel it. Some contract addresses also reject plain transfers. Verify the address on the wallet screen before you print, and tell the payer to check the wallet's warning if one appears.
- Never print a private key
- A receiving address is public and safe to print. A private key or a seed phrase must never be typed into the generator, printed or shared. The generator needs only the address and the value.
Ethereum QR code questions
Is the Ethereum QR code generator free?
Yes. You can create the code, adjust its colors and shapes, and download it as PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG without signing in.
Why does the value have to be in wei?
Ethereum amounts are recorded in wei, its smallest unit, so the value parameter is written in those units. The generator does not convert ether to wei, which means any conversion you make by hand decides the amount.
Does the code choose the network for me?
No. The generator does not add a chain identifier, so the wallet that reads the code chooses the network. Confirm the network with the person who pays before you share the code.
Can the code call a smart contract or send a token?
No. The link carries only a receiving address and an optional value in wei. It has no function name, token address or other parameter, so it cannot start a contract action.
Can I track who paid?
No. The code is static and holds no link to count, and the generator does not read the blockchain. You can check incoming transfers in your own wallet. Dynamic codes count scans, which is a different measure.
Does the amount on the screen match the value in the code?
It should once it is converted, but the two figures are in different units. Wallets often display ether while the code stores wei. Work out the conversion yourself, compare it with the wallet preview, and check both before anyone pays.
Is this a financial service?
No. The generator draws a code from the details you type. It does not hold, buy, sell or convert any asset, and it does not give investment advice. For questions about holding or paying in crypto, speak with a qualified professional.
