FaceTime QR Code Generator
Scan the code with an Apple device and FaceTime starts a video call with the phone number or email address you entered. It suits contacts who already use Apple devices and have that number or address registered with FaceTime.
What a FaceTime QR code starts
A FaceTime QR code holds the facetime scheme followed by one target, which is a phone number or an email address the person has registered with FaceTime. The camera hands that line to FaceTime, which places a video call to the device that uses the target. The editor writes only the video form of the scheme, so it never creates an audio-only call.
The target is taken as typed, apart from the spaces at its start and end. Unlike the phone and SMS types, this field is not cleaned, so spaces and dashes inside a number stay in the code. A number typed with spaces between groups of digits would carry those spaces along, so type it in one unbroken line before you generate the code.
The code is static. It holds the target and nothing else, so the call goes to the same number or address for as long as the contact keeps that registration. The code cannot record who scanned it, and it does not show whether the call was answered.
How to make a FaceTime QR code in three steps
-
01
Enter the phone number or email
Type the number or the email address in the Phone or email field. Use the exact address the contact has registered with FaceTime, because a number or email that Apple does not recognize may not start a call.
-
02
Write the target cleanly
Write a phone number in one unbroken line, with the plus sign and the country code first. Spaces inside the target stay in the code because the field is not cleaned, so remove them before you generate it.
-
03
Test on an Apple device, then download
Scan the preview with a second Apple device and confirm that the call screen opens. Then download an SVG for print or a PNG for a screen, with an export size between 512 and 4096 pixels.
Where a FaceTime QR code helps
-
A family number on the fridge
A grandparent's number on a card at home lets a child start a video call by scanning, with no contact search on a tablet. Print the name beside the code so the right person gets the call.
-
Tutors and music lessons
A music teacher or language coach can put a code on a practice sheet. A student who uses an Apple device starts the lesson from the sheet, without a link or a contact to find.
-
Agents and home services
A real estate agent can print a code on a yard sign that opens a call to the office, provided that number is registered with FaceTime. A plumber can use the same idea on a van sticker, for customers who prefer a video chat.
-
Shared desks and co-working spaces
A workspace where most members use Apple devices can post a code for each person who takes calls there. Each code points to one person, so reception does not have to forward a shared number.
-
Reception and front desks
A front desk can show a code that calls the manager's Apple number for visitors who arrive early. Keep the code tied to one person, and make a new one when that person changes.
Tips for a FaceTime code that connects
- Use the number or email on the Apple account
- The call goes to the phone number or email the person registered with FaceTime, not to the name in an address book. Ask the contact which address they use for FaceTime before you print, because a work number may not be the one registered.
- Type a clean phone number
- Write the plus sign, the country code and the digits in one run, as you would dial from abroad. The editor does not strip characters from this field, so any spaces or dashes you type end up inside the code.
- Remember that Android cannot join
- FaceTime is an Apple service. A person on an Android phone, or on a computer without FaceTime, cannot receive the call through this code. Offer a phone call code or a WhatsApp code for those contacts instead.
- Tell people what will happen
- A call that starts without warning can catch someone off guard. Put a short line beside the code, such as who is calling and why, so the person who scans it knows what to expect.
FaceTime QR code questions
Does the code work on Android?
No. FaceTime runs on Apple devices, so an Android phone cannot place a call from this code. For contacts on Android, use a phone call code or a WhatsApp code.
Does the code start a video call or an audio call?
A video call. The editor writes the video form of the FaceTime scheme, and it has no option for an audio-only call.
Can I use a username instead of a number?
No. FaceTime works with a phone number or an email address that is registered with it. The field does not accept a nickname or a handle.
Why did the call not start?
Usually the target is not registered with FaceTime, the other device is switched off or signed out, or the number has spaces that the field kept. Check the target with the contact and test the code on a second Apple device.
Should the plus sign be included?
For a phone number, yes. The plus sign and country code tell the call exactly which country the number belongs to, so it is the safest form to print.
Can I track calls made with the code?
No. A static FaceTime code carries no link and records nothing. The call runs between the two devices, and the code cannot report how many were started.
