App Store QR Code Generator

An App Store code takes a phone straight to the download page of your app, so people can install it in a few taps. Use one code per store, or point a single code at a page that lists both the Apple App Store and Google Play, so each visitor picks the right one.

What an app store QR code links to

An app store QR code stores one address, such as an App Store listing that starts with apps.apple.com, or a Google Play listing. Scanning opens that page on the phone, and the store takes over from there with its install button. The editor opens with the App Store address already in place, so you paste the full link to your app over it.

Apple and Google use different addresses, so a static code can serve only one of them. You have two sensible options. You can print two codes, one for each store, which reads clearly on packaging. Or you can make one code that opens a landing page with both store buttons, which suits a single poster or a sign at a counter.

With a Pro or Team plan, a dynamic code can route by device. iPhone, iPad and iPod visitors go to the App Store link, Android visitors go to the Google Play link, and every other visitor reaches the default address you set in the editor. Routing needs a paid plan and an account, and a static code always sends everyone to one place.

Setting up an app store code in three steps

  1. 01

    Find the store address

Open your app's listing in the App Store or in Google Play, then copy the address shown in the browser bar. Paste it into the Website URL field, replacing the App Store address the editor displays, so that the code holds only the link you intend to share.

  2. 02

    Check both phone systems

Scan the preview with an iPhone and again with an Android phone, and confirm that each one opens the correct store page. If you built a landing page with both stores, press both buttons on each phone before anything goes to print.

  3. 03

    Choose the size and export

Keep a generous quiet zone around the code and print it at a size a camera can read from the distance your visitors will stand. Download an SVG for packaging and large signs, or a PNG for a screen, a sticker sheet or a slide.

Where app store codes do the most work

  • Product packaging and boxes

A game, a gadget or a craft kit can carry the code on its box, so a buyer who wants the companion app installs it in seconds. Place the code on a side panel, where it does not compete with the main artwork or the product photo.

  • Shop counters and loyalty apps

A cashier's counter or a shelf talker can show the code for a loyalty app, which many shoppers prefer to a paper card they lose. Use one code per store when the shop serves both iPhone and Android customers in similar numbers.

  • Restaurants and table tents

A table tent can carry the ordering app code, so guests install it while they wait for the first course. A landing page with both stores works well here, because guests choose their own store without reading a small label.

  • Conferences and event badges

Organisers can print a combined code on badges and lanyards, so attendees install the event app before they arrive. Pair it with a sign at the registration desk, where people stop anyway to collect their name tags and ask questions.

  • Business cards and service apps

A tradesperson or consultant can print a code on a business card that opens the client app. Keep the wording short, such as Install the app, and leave the other side of the card free for contact details and a logo.

Tips for an app store code that installs

Check the store in each country
A listing can be unavailable in some countries or appear with different details from one storefront to another. Open the code in every country where you print, and correct the address if a listing shows up only in one store region.
Give the code a clear job
A bare square looks like a discount or a puzzle. Write a short instruction beside it that names the app and the action, such as Download the app, and use the same name that appears in the store listing.
Plan for a new listing address
A new version of the app usually keeps the same listing address, so a printed code keeps working. If the listing moves, the printed code needs replacing unless it is a dynamic code, which lets you edit the destination without printing again.
Test under real lighting
Glossy packaging and bright storefront windows can reflect enough light to blind a camera. Scan the printed piece in the room where it will hang, at the distance a customer would stand, before committing to a full print run.

App store QR code questions

Is the App Store QR code generator free?

Yes, static codes are free to create. The free plan includes the full editor, styling and PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG downloads, so you can make a code for each store without paying. Dynamic codes need a Pro or Team plan.

Can one QR code open the App Store and Google Play?

Yes, but not as a single static address. Point the code at a landing page with both store buttons, or use a dynamic code on a Pro or Team plan with a device rule for iPhone and another for Android.

Does a QR code open the store app directly?

A phone camera reads the code and opens the listing in the browser, and the store app takes over when it is installed. The visitor still taps the install button, because a code cannot start a download on its own.

Why does the code open the wrong store?

The address was probably copied from the wrong listing, or a static code was made for one store while most of your customers use the other. Compare the address with the listing on your computer and run a test scan on each phone system.

Can I change the app link after printing?

Not with a static code, because its address is fixed inside the image. A dynamic code on a Pro or Team plan lets you edit the destination later, so the printed square keeps working when the listing address changes.

Can I count how many people install the app from a code?

Not exactly. A dynamic code counts how often it is scanned, broken down by day, device and referrer, but it cannot show how many of those scans ended in an install, because the store does not report that back to you.
