Bitcoin QR Code Generator

Enter a Bitcoin address and, if you want, an amount in BTC, a label and a message. The generator writes a bitcoin: link that Bitcoin wallets can read, and a payment sent to the wrong address cannot be recovered.

What a Bitcoin QR code holds

A Bitcoin QR code holds a BIP-21 link. It starts with bitcoin: and the receiving address, followed by optional parameters after a question mark: amount, label and message. The amount is written in bitcoin, not in satoshis, while the label and message are text that a wallet may show to the payer. Values are percent-encoded, so spaces and symbols survive the trip.

The address is the destination, and the code builder in this editor writes it exactly as you type it. The builder does not check the checksum, confirm that the address belongs to you, or choose a network. Bitcoin addresses come in several formats, and each wallet supports the formats it chooses to support.

The code is static, and it is only a payment request. It does not show whether money arrived, and the generator does not connect to a wallet or to the Bitcoin network. Some people use a fresh address for each request to keep their records apart, which a wallet can create for you.

How to make a Bitcoin QR code in three steps

  1. 01

    Copy the receiving address

Paste the address from your wallet into the Address field instead of typing it from memory. Compare the first and last few characters with the wallet screen. A wrong address may be rejected by a wallet, or, if it is a different valid address, the payment goes to someone else.

  2. 02

Set the amount, label and message

Enter the Amount in BTC as a decimal, such as 0.005. The Label and Message are optional text that some wallets show when they open the code. Leave Amount empty when the payer should choose how much to send.

  3. 03

Check, test without paying, then download

Scan the preview with a wallet on a second device, and compare the address and amount it shows with what you see on your own screen. Do not send a test payment to the address on the code. Then download an SVG for print or a PNG for a screen.

Where a Bitcoin QR code is useful

  • Donations and open projects

A code on a project page or in a newsletter lets supporters send bitcoin without a set amount. Keep the Label short so the wallet shows the project name clearly.

  • Freelance invoices

A code on an invoice lets a client pay in bitcoin with the amount set in BTC and the invoice number in the message. Agree the figure in BTC with the client before printing, because the value of bitcoin changes.

  • Shops and event tables

A code at a counter lets a customer pay in bitcoin without a card terminal, where the business accepts it. Make a new code for each price, because the amount is inside the link.

  • Community and club funds

A code on a noticeboard can receive contributions to a shared address that a treasurer controls. Confirm that the group can open that wallet before you print the code.

  • Teaching how payment links work

A teacher can scan the code with a wallet on a demo device and compare the address, amount and label with the printed values. The lesson needs no payment, only the screen.

Tips for a Bitcoin code that reaches the right wallet

Verify before you print
Compare the address on the code with the address on your wallet screen, character by character, and scan the code once more after you print it. A printed code cannot be corrected, so a mistake means printing again.
Payments cannot be reversed
Once a bitcoin payment is confirmed on the network, neither the sender nor this generator can cancel or reverse it. Check the address before anyone pays, not after.
Mind the unit of the amount
The Amount field takes BTC, not satoshis and not a local currency. An amount of 1 means one whole bitcoin, so type 0.001 for a much smaller payment.
Label and message depend on the wallet
Some wallets show the label and message, and others ignore them. Do not rely on the message to identify a payment. Write the reference on your invoice and check the transaction history in your wallet.

Bitcoin QR code questions

Is the Bitcoin QR code generator free?

Yes. You can write the address and the optional fields, style the code and download it as PNG, JPG, WEBP or SVG without signing in.

Does the generator check my address?

No. The code is built from the text you enter, so an invalid address still produces a clean-looking image. A wallet may reject an invalid address, which is why a test scan matters before you print.

Can the code tell me when a payment arrives?

No. The code carries only a payment request. It does not connect to a wallet or to the Bitcoin network, so you need to check your own wallet history for incoming transactions.

Which address format should I use?

Use the address your wallet shows for receiving. Wallets can display several formats, such as addresses that start with 1, with 3 or with bc1. Choose the format your wallet recommends, and make sure the payer's wallet supports it.

Can I leave the amount open so the payer chooses?

Yes. Leave the Amount field empty, and the link contains only the address and any label or message. The payer then enters the sum in their own wallet.

Is a Bitcoin code the same as an Ethereum code?

No. A Bitcoin link uses the bitcoin scheme, amounts in BTC and addresses from the Bitcoin network. Ethereum uses different addresses and units, so one kind of address cannot be used in the other kind of code. Ethereum has its own code type on this site.

Does a code keep working after I change wallets?

Not necessarily. A code points to one address, so if you move your funds to a new wallet, the printed code still names the old address. Make a new code whenever the receiving address changes, and mark the old printouts as retired.
