Location QR Code Generator

A location code holds one pair of coordinates, and a phone opens its map app centered on that point. It suits a venue entrance, a meeting point or a delivery spot where a street address alone is not precise enough.

What a location code holds

The location type writes a short geo text: the word geo, a colon, the latitude, a comma and the longitude. When a phone camera reads it, the phone offers its map app and places a pin at those coordinates. The code carries no name for the place, so the pin stays unlabeled unless you print a caption beside it.

Latitude is the north-south position in decimal degrees, and longitude is the east-west position. Positions south of the equator and west of the prime meridian take negative numbers, which matters across most of the Americas. The editor takes the two values in separate fields, so a pair copied together from a map must be split before you enter it.

Precision depends on the decimals you enter. Four decimal places pin a spot to about eleven meters in latitude, and five decimal places to about one meter. A code can be more precise than the entrance it marks, so round the value to what a visitor actually needs.

A pin marks an exact point, not an entrance or a route. When a visitor asks the map app for directions, the app calculates the route from that point, so a pin placed in the middle of a plaza may not match the door you have in mind.

Making a location code in three steps

  1. 01

    Get the coordinates

Open the spot in a map service on a computer, right-click the exact point and read the two numbers shown in the menu. The first is the latitude and the second the longitude, so copy each one into its own field with its sign.

  2. 02

Enter the values in their fields

Type the latitude in Latitude and the longitude in Longitude. The editor does not swap them for you, and a pair entered in reverse sends the phone to a distant, empty point on the map.

  3. 03

    Check the pin and download

Scan the preview with a phone and check that the map opens on the right building, junction or gate. Then download an SVG for signage or a PNG for a flyer or a website banner.

Where a location code is useful

  • Venue entrances and loading docks

Stand a code near a gate or a service door, where a driver or a guest needs the exact point rather than the front address of the building.

  • Meeting points for tours and races

A guide or race organizer can post the pin at the meeting point, so runners and visitors find the start without reading a long description.

  • Trailheads and parking areas

A trailhead sign with a code helps visitors reach the car park where the route begins, especially where no street address exists.

  • Rural properties and farm gates

Country properties often lack a house number. A sign at the lane entrance with a code gives drivers a pin at the gate they need.

  • Festivals and pop-up stalls

Organizers can place a code on a site map or a stall sign so visitors find one specific stand, while the printed map covers the rest of the grounds.

  • Historic sites and heritage gates

A heritage site can place a code at its gate so visitors find the accessible entrance, which is often different from the main doorway. Explain the accessible route in a caption, because the pin marks only the point you chose.

Tips for location codes that open the right pin

Read the numbers in order
The two fields are labeled, so careful typing matters more than memory. A value pasted into the Latitude field with the longitude attached will break the code.
Keep the minus sign
A missing minus sign moves the pin to a distant point, far from the spot you meant. The sign is part of the number, so check it against your map view before printing.
Add a caption
The phone shows a pin without a name, so a visitor may not know what the spot is. Print the place name beside the code, using the same words as the signage on site.
Choose between a pin and a named link
A web link to a named place, sent through the Website URL type, carries the place's name. A location code carries coordinates only, which suits a bare pin on an exact point.

Location QR code questions

Is the location generator free?

Static location codes are free to create and download. Dynamic location codes, which let you change the pin later, are part of the Pro plan or higher.

Where do I find the coordinates?

Computer map services show them when you right-click a point. Some phone map apps also show coordinates in the details of a place. Confirm the sign and the order before you enter them.

How is a location code different from a map link?

A location code is only a coordinate, and the phone decides which map app opens it. Pick it when you want a pin that works with whatever map the visitor uses.

How many decimals should I use?

Four decimals give roughly eleven meters, which is enough for a building entrance. Five decimals reach about one meter, which only helps when the spot is a specific door or post.

Does the phone need internet to show the pin?

The code carries only the coordinates. What the map shows, and whether it loads without a connection, depends on the map app on the phone.

Can a visitor see a name for the place?

Not from the code itself. Print the name next to it. If you later need to change the target, a dynamic code can do that, but the coordinates remain the only information the static code holds.

Can a location code track a moving target?

Not as a static code. A location code marks one fixed point, so a food truck that changes its spot needs a dynamic code on a paid plan, or a printed schedule that shows where it is today.
