PDF QR Code Generator
A PDF code opens a document on the phone that scans it, whether that is a restaurant menu, a product manual or a price list. Upload the file where you already keep documents, paste its link here and print a code that leads straight to it.
What a PDF QR code does
A PDF QR code is a code that stores the web address of a PDF file. The document itself is not inside the image. When a phone camera reads the code, it opens the address, and the phone shows the file in its browser or viewer.
That is why the file has to live somewhere public first. A page on your own website works, and so do the sharing links of Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive. What matters is that anyone with the link can open it without signing in.
A static code keeps that address forever, so it works for as long as the file stays at the same link. A dynamic code stores a short redirect link instead, which lets you point the printed code at a new file later and count how many people open it.
How to make a PDF QR code in three steps
-
01
Put the file online and copy the link
Upload the PDF to your website, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. Open its sharing options, choose access for anyone who has the link, and copy the address that the service gives you.
-
02
Paste the link and check it signed out
Replace the starting address in the editor with the copied link. Open the same link in a private browser window first, because what you see there is exactly what a stranger sees after scanning.
-
03
Style, test and download the code
Pick colors with strong contrast, add a logo if you want one, and download an SVG for print or a PNG for screens. Scan the final file from the distance people will stand before you send it to the printer.
Where a PDF code is useful
-
Restaurant menus
A café can print one code per table that opens the current menu. When prices change, the owner uploads the new PDF over the old one and the codes on the tables keep working.
-
Product manuals and warranties
Manufacturers print a code on the box or the device itself that opens the full manual. It saves paper, and the customer finds the instructions years later when the printed booklet is long gone.
-
Property brochures
A real estate agent can put a code on the sign outside a house that opens the floor plan and the details. Visitors keep the document on their phone after they walk away.
-
Classes and events
Teachers add a code to a worksheet that opens the reading list or the answers, and conference organizers print one on badges that opens the program. Nobody needs to type a long address.
-
Catalogs and price lists
A shop can display a code next to the counter that opens the current catalog or the terms of a promotion. Customers browse it while they wait, and staff stop handing out photocopies.
Tips for a PDF code that people open
- Keep one stable address
- A storage link that changes every time you upload a new version breaks a static code. Replace the file in place on Drive or Dropbox, or use a dynamic code, so the printed square keeps opening the latest version.
- Say what the document is
- A flyer that says Scan for the full price list tells people what they get before they lift the phone. Without that line, many will not scan a bare square on a table or a wall.
- Make the file light
- Large photos inside a PDF can push the file past twenty megabytes. Export it again with reduced image quality so that it opens in a few seconds on a phone with weak signal.
- Design the PDF for small screens
- A PDF laid out for A4 paper is hard to read on a narrow screen. Use a large font size, a single column and short pages for documents that people will mostly read on a phone.
PDF QR code questions
Does Kuadro host my PDF file?
No. Kuadro makes the code, not the file storage. Keep the PDF on your website, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, set it to open for anyone with the link, and paste that link into the editor.
Is the PDF QR code generator free?
Creating, styling and downloading a static PDF code is free and needs no account. Dynamic codes, which let you swap the file behind a printed code, need the Pro plan or higher.
Why does the PDF ask for permission when someone scans the code?
The sharing setting is the usual cause. A file shared only with your account asks strangers to sign in or request access. Change the setting to anyone with the link and scan the code again from a phone that is signed out.
Can I update the PDF after the code is printed?
With a static code, only if the new file keeps exactly the same address, which most storage services do when you replace a file in place. With a dynamic code you paste a new link at any time and the printed square stays valid.
Do people need an app to read the PDF?
Nothing to install. Current phones open PDF files in the browser or in a built-in viewer, so the reader taps the code and the document appears, even on a basic Android phone.
Does a long or heavy PDF make the QR code bigger?
The code size does not change with the file, because the code only holds the address. A large PDF just takes longer to load, so compress scanned pages before you upload them if readers will be on mobile data.
